1959-1960 World War I Collectible Original Framed Lithographs - 3 available, 12.75” × 9.75”

from $30.00

These three World War I framed original military lithographs from the Leach Corporation are as interesting as a set as they are on their own. The Leach Corp. used these as aviation advertisements during the 1960's. They appeared quite regularly in Aviation Week and Space Technology. Pick one, pick two, or pick all three! The three that are available are:

  1. "The Arizona Balloon Buster" - The captivating story of Lt. Frank Luke Jr. of the 27th Aero Squadron and his successful attack on German Observation Balloons.

  2. “Great London Air Raid Scare” - A tactically unproductive but deeply psychologically damning event in which the Germans dropped 72 bombs on the British. This event would foreshadow the fear to come in the 1930’s.

  3. “The Strange Story” - Thrown out of his Martinsyde Scout, Capt. Louis A. Strange hung from his biplane aircraft facing a sure death, only to launch himself back into his cockpit by sheer force of will, ultimately pulling out of the dive.

Condition: Used -Good: A well-cared-for item that has seen limited/regular use and remains in good working condition.

Features:

  • Prints can be sold separately or together. See the individual titles in the close up pictures.

  • Dimensions framed: 12.75” × 9.75”

  • Black frames

History of the Collection: When Leach Corporation, as it was then called, commissioned a painting of a World War I aircraft in flight, little did management know it was giving birth to what would become widely known as the "Heritage of the Air Collection." Leach, which was involved in manufacturing relay components for the aerospace industry, simply wanted to feature the work in a corporate advertising campaign.

The painting appeared in a Leach ad in the February 16, 1959, issue of "Aviation Week & Space Technology," and it received such favorable response that Leach quickly commissioned another painting, followed by another, then another, and so on. By 1966, the series comprised a total of 45 enormously popular original aviation paintings. These are just three of them!
